Ljubljana and Lake Bled
December 2023
Lake Bled: a stunning glacial lake in the Julien Alps of Northwestern Slovenia.
Reach the teardrop-shaped island via a traditional wooden pletna boat, climb the 99 steps, and ring the wishing bell inside the church.
— Travel
Direct from London Heathrow to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik airport, approximately 24km northwest of central Ljubljana.
— Transport
Ubers to/from the airport and to/from Lake Bled, other than that we were able to walk nearly everywhere within the city and around the lake.
— Accommodation
For the 2 nights we spent in central Ljubljana I chose the Grand Plaza hotel and congress centre. Mostly for its prime central location to the city’s main train station and historical sites. Roughly a 20km, 25 minute, drive from the airport.
Following this, we moved onto Lake Bled. Choosing Hotel Starkl, a charming family-run boutique hotel. Located directly on the shores of peaceful Lake Bled.
